Yes folks, Nimblewill has laced up his Oboz trekkers and is shouldering his Murmur backpack
one more time–for the last, last time!
This year’s odyssey will be known as “Odyssey 2021 ‘Bama to Baxter – Hike On.” This will be the ultimate journey in this old man’s life, one of body, mind and spirit.
This trek begins at Flagg Mountain, the southernmost mountain in the Appalachians
Mountain Range. From Flagg he’ll follow the Pinhoti Trail through northeast Alabama into
Georgia where he’ll connect with the Benton MacKaye Trail–which leads to Springer Mountain
in north Georgia. On Springer Mountain he’ll pick up the Appalachian Trail and hike it on to
Mt. Katahdin in Maine.
Journal entries and photos will be posted often. Gonna be another predictively unpredictable
Nimblewill Odyssey – Bama to Baxter 2021 Hike On.
Sure be great to have y’all come along…

Had some brief interactions with you last year when you were at ‘The Cabin’ in Maine. You were plum tuckered, so we let you rest. However, it was encouraging just to be with a fellow believer who is running this race to the last step. We can only imagine what the next step after our last one will be like as we enter into the presence of our gracious Lord and Savior.

Congratulations!! What a worthy accomplishment at any age. The fact that you are over 80 makes it even or of an accomplishment. I can only hope I have as much guts, stamina and courage when I reach your age.

Nimblewell, Congrats on the completion of a great journey and amazing accomplishment. Also thanks for your words of encouragement when I met you in PA. Enjoyed getting to know you as we walked together and stayed the night at John Stempa’s place. Your words “Don’t stop, because if you stop, you will stop.” have resonated in my mind since then. Finished up PA just after we parted, and next year on to NJ and NY. God’s blessings on you my friend.

On Aug 18th “Flower Girl” and I were called by “Switchback” to Abol Campground. We had just enjoyed the ALDHA Trail Angels’ meatball sandwiches and taken pictures of, and admired, Mt Katahdin from the bridge when we heard Switchbacks’ call. We were careful not to wake you as we talked with Switchback & his wife. You looked very comfortable sleeping next to the camper, and as much as we wanted to talk with you, and let you know how humbled we were camping a couple nights with you and Switchback, we though it best not to wake you. At 74 I thought I was pushing myself … but you, NimbleWill, are the most amazing. Thank you for showing us ALL what “a will” can allow us to do.
God Bless!

I would be incredibly honored if you would consider a guest appearance on the Dirtwalker Outdoors Podcast. You definitely fit the requirements for my segment, Adventure Seekers. Besides that, you are an inspiration, sir, to so many.

It was so nice to meet you this morning. When my friend and I made it to the top of Jenkins gap to take a break, we had no idea we’d meet such a legend. I’m in awe !! I couldn’t wait to get home and get on your website. I wish we had, had some water with us to offer but we were just out for a quick hike. Wishing you the absolute best on your journey and safe travels. So happy our paths crossed, my new friend!! Take care.

Suggestion from the PATC trail maintainer you met in SNP: After capturing Baxter Peak on Katahdin, continue across the Knife Edge to Pamola Peak. Descend to Chimney Pond via the Dudley Trail. Finish on the Chimney Pond trail to Roaring Brook (3.3 miles) to meet your ride home.

Sonny, so sorry we didn’t get to make it back to Flagg the day before you left, we had a sick grand baby. We are going to try to surprise Kinsley and come meet up with you on the trail some time this summer. We hope to see you soon, hope you are enjoying every step. We also look forward to seeing you back up on the mountain this fall or winter in Weogufka.

Enjoying your 10,000,000 Steps book. Following your progress with an atlas. Slows the reading but adds much. You just entered New Jersey.
