Friday–September 24, 2021
Trail Day–217
Trail Mile–-0.0/2221.0
Remaining Miles–396.4
Location–Hikers Welcome Hostel, Glencliff, John Packrat and Alyson Robblee, Proprietors

There’s great WiFi here at Hikers Welcome, so I’m able to get a really good look at the active weather map. The region affected by this low pressure zone is immense, a constantly moving band of green/yellow/red that stretches from the Caribbean all the way to Quebec. It’s moving north with ever-so-slow progress east, regenerating and passing again and again. The rain has been off and on (mostly on) all day. I’m blessed to be out of it here in the snug bunkhouse that is Hikers Welcome.

So, this turns to be another zero-mile day. Just as well, and certainly not a waste. I’ve kept my feet up, rested, worked correspondence, called and talked with friends, and caught up on journal entries.

The forecast for tomorrow looks good, sunny and cool with partial clouding later in the day. We can do three days of (day) hiking out of the hostel here. Short shuttles provided by the hostel will get us out, then back. We’ll bide our time with these day hikes until we’ve reasonable assurance of having a couple of good days to climb back up and do the Franconia Ridge traverse.

Patience and perseverance have a magical effect
before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish.
(John Quincy Adams)
