  5. You are such an inspiration! I’m 76 with 3 knee replacements, and I just signed up for the last 100k on El Camino de Santiago in September – 10 miles/day for 7 days. I’ll be training for it!

  10. Hi Eb, Happy New Year to you too! So many different concerns even in this new year that I am watching. Todd Gladfelter’s progress is encouraging. I have another friend from in the campground that is in hospital from cellulitis to an old wound that was critical but now is being treated. The doctor operated on him and also found mersa so good that he went and got it treated. Looks like antibiotics for the next six weeks. Others are on the road on their way to FL and running into bad weather. Ahh, new year and same old concerns with new people. Frank and I lost a good friend from his childhood and hometown on Christmas. He had heart problems that we thought he had licked but it was not to be. He doesn’t have anyone left now that he grew up with and he is finding it harder to make new friends. But enough tough stuff. We are looking to go to AK again this summer. It will be a different trip as we are traveling with another couple in a truck camper. Neat folks that also have two dogs of which one is a female fixed golden retriever that Sonny loves to play with. The Covid and weather have created havoc in our favorite park, Denali NP. The road has collapsed under a landslide in a critical area so they have decided to build a bridge which will take a couple years. Still a lot of places to see and explore tho so we will plan accordingly. I hope the new year is kind to you and brings lots of visitors as I know you enjoy them. Not sure of our route yet but if you are coming to Florida please let me know cause we enjoy your company and would enjoy sharing time with you.

How and where does one begin to describe you and your amazing accomplishments. You gave up a life of retirement for adventure and excitement. There were friendships made and memories beyond comprehension. There were also times of disappointment, doubt , pain ,and suffering. There were aching muscles , blisters, freezing cold , mud ,and rain.
Through all of it you took all of us along through your books, your ditties, and your posts on the internet. For this I thank you my old friend. I will always cherish the times I spent with you listening to your poems and stories of the trail. I’ll be patiently waiting for your next book to come out. Until then it’s another day in paradise … Your hiker friend Au Sable Mike.
