Trail Day–029
Trail Mile–13.4/338.3
Location–Pitched at Trailside, Mile Marker 338.3

Mulberry Gap Mountain Bike Get-A-Way, what a first-class operation. The owners, Andrew and Kate (hands on, serving us breakfast), and the great crew; Amanda, Jackie, Jeremy, Tori, Whitney, and J.R. Although extremely busy, time was taken to welcome us and make us feel at home. Best accommodations you’ll likely find anywhere–up against the side of a mountain! Comfy cabin; great meals.

Fine hiking today. Lots of climbing. We’re in the Blue Ridge Mountains now. Here in Georgia the Pinhoti Trail is open to mountain bikes–certain segments. Today we’re hiking one of those segments. Lots of bikes on the trail today, but they’re not a distraction.

Late morning, we meet two hikers going southbound. Both are from Tennessee, Jared from Chattanooga and Al from Cookeville.

Evening, we find a flat area large enough to pitch our tents. The joyful song of the little brook below quickly lulls is to sleep…

There is no security in your mansions or your fortresses,
your family vaults or your banks or your double beds.
Understand this fact, and you will be free.
Accept it, and you will be happy.
(Christopher Isherwood)
