Trail Day–031
Trail Mile–15.0/363.7
Location–Bushy Head Road

What a blessing having Barry’s support again. I was able to soak my tired old bones in a bathtub of hot water–then it was off to a fine night’s sleep; thanks to Barry for shuttling me around.

I’ve a 15-mile day today. First up is fording South Fork, Jacks River (for the third time). Without Barry’s help I’d be looking at an entire day of hiking with wet feet–if he hadn’t loaned me his hiking shoes. After doing the ford and at two miles in today, Barry is able to intercept me and give me my dry shoes and socks. Hey, instead of 15 miles of wet feet–I’ll have dry feet all day, what joy!

Great trail, the Benton MacKaye. It’s been laid out professionally and is being well maintained.

So, although this is a long day, it’s an enjoyable day. Great views from the ridge, where the trail mostly passes–after the long climb up from South Fork River.

Evening, Barry has camp all set right next the trail. Salad, steaks, and baked potatoes–really roughing it!

Barry met a fellow along the road today, Chip Carroll. He’s with jimmybars.com. They make a great energy bar. After hearing about the old Nomad, Chip is excited about sponsoring Odyssey 2021–by providing delicious energy bars all the way to Maine! Well now, looks like Nimblewill has himself a new sponsor! Great energy in your bars, Chip. Positive energy from you–thanks!

Tomorrow will be a short day, only 10 miles. I’ll get them in early as I want to take time to visit dear friends in Dahlonega, my old stomping grounds.

  1. How awesome to have so many good folks along the way! Congrats on the new sponsor! I’m sure those energy bars will be a blessing along the way! Eric and I have stayed in Dahlonega a couple times… Such a quaint little tourist town! Lots of interesting history there… #NimblewillStrong
