Sunday–April 4, 2021
Trail Day–044
Trail Mile–12.8/457.3
Location–Poplar Stamp Gap, mile marker 44.1

Up early, before five-thirty. Last breakfast here, and it’s the best–thanks Nimrod!

Sad farewells this morning, first to my dear new friends, Lucky and Nimrod, then to Barry. He’s heading for home today. Thanks Barry, for all your help and support! I’m doing well on this hike because of all you’ve done for me.

Mountain Crossings at Neels Gap doesn’t open this morning until ten (surprised they’re even open today–being Easter Sunday). I linger in order to meet Logan. He and wife, Georganna, manage the store/outfitter at Neels Gap. They’re one of my steadfast sponsors. So, very happy to get to spend a few minutes with Logan!

Hard, steep and rocky pulls today, up and over Levelland Mountain, Turkeypen Mountain, Rock Spring Top, Wolf Laurel Top, Green Cliff Top–before descending to Tesnatee and Hogpen Gaps. Afternoon it’s more climbs up and over Strawberry Top, Poor Mountain, and finally Sheep Rock Top, before descending to Low Gap for water–before the final climb for the day to the campsite at Poplar Stamp Gap.

A very strenuous and tiring day, but just look at the amazing views afforded me on this glorious Easter Sunday…

If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life
is thank you, it will be enough.
