Trail Day–088
Trail Mile–12.1/825.1
Location–Dennis Cove Road, then to Kincora (Hostel), Bob Peoples Proprietor, AT Mile 420.1
Scotty’s bunkhouse has two levels, the lower has four bunks, the upper, a double bed. He put me in the upper with the double bed. Not wanting to mess up the clean sheets, I put my bedroll on the floor (by the baseboard heater) and enjoyed a comfortable, warm and quiet night.

There’s a large meadow below the bunkhouse and this morning, as I look out to greet the new day, I’ve the pleasure of seeing turkey foraging. Looks of it–going to be a great hiking day!

Scotty is weak and bedridden, and I’ve not had my virus shots, so, regretfully, I’ll not see him. Before returning to the trail, and while still connected to Scotty’s WiFi, I send an email thanking him for his kindness and friendship these many years.

Plenty of green tunnel trail today, no long climbs, just steady ups and downs, rocks and roots.

Looking forward to this evening with much anticipation, as I’ll be staying (once more) at Kincora. Bob Peoples is Kincora. He built the place in the early 90s and has been running it ever since. I stayed at Kincora during my northbound trek in ’98. So, Bob has been my friend for well over two decades.

Ahh, and arriving, Bob is sitting right there on the porch. Good old times time once more. Much great conversation. So good to be here with you again, Bob!

When you meet with your old friends,
you recollect some of the finest moments of your life
and find yourself in a joy that has no comparison.
