Trail Day–103
Trail Mile–-15.6/1,075.7
Location–Peters Mountain Trailhead, then to Angel’s Rest Hostel, Pearisburg, Doc Peppa Chapman, Proprietor, AT Mile 657.0
Mountain Mike is running the shuttle this morning and he gets me loaded before seven-thirty. It’s a short distance from the hostel to the trailhead at Peters Mountain (I’ll be hiking south today) and I’m back on trail to a glorious morning well before eight.
I’ve a steady climb, switchbacks first then a straight-up the rest of the way (1,400 feet) to the ridge. More cobbed-up rocks and boulders to deal with on the ridge. However, there are large lush patches of fern and great views. So, stumbling and hammering the boulder fields–well worth the effort!
More bright colors grace the trail again today, and I’m once more busy with my camera.
Late afternoon I complete the descent (over 1,000 feet) to Clendennin Road, where Pan soon comes to get me for the shuttle back to Angels Rest.
A luxurious shower, then a short hike to Dairy Queen, and this day goes down as a dandy…
An early-morning walk
is a blessing for the whole day.
