Trail Day–207
Trail Mile–-7.1/2174.4
Remaining Miles–443.0
Location–Carter Notch Hut
All my clothes on, rolled up in a ball on my air mattress, tucked way down in my thirty-degree quilt, I managed a reasonably comfortable night’s sleep.
A quick trip to the privy and I’m on trail shortly after seven. Speedy, Coperhead & Cat Tracks are right behind me.
Another hard day of climbing, upwards of 2,000 feet–over Imp Mountain, North Carter, Middle Carter, South Carter, Mount Hight, and finally, Carter Dome. Another glorious day, which offers incredible views from Mount Hight.
Off Carter Dome we’ve the treacherous descent to Carter Notch Hut, over 1,500 feet of bail-off in less than a mile.
Cat Tracks & Nimblewill, we’re the only ones here tonight. Copperhead & Speedy pitched at a nearby campsite.
A fine supper prepared by the hut crew. Bunks with mattresses in an enclosed cabin. A warm, comfortable (earned) night’s sleep at Carter Notch Hut.
A well spent day brings happy sleep.
