Trail Day–160
Trail Mile–-12.4/1,843.6
Location–NY-309, then to Bear Mountain Bridge Motel, Allan Grandpa O’Dell, Proprietor, Fort Montgomery, NY, AT Mile 1,424.9
Another fine breakfast by Perry (at Perry’s), compliments of Grandpa. Barry then gets us back on trail at the Appalachian Market.
I hike out with much anticipation this morning. I’m looking forward to stopping by Graymoor, Franciscan Friars of Atonement. I was taken in by the Friars there during both my previous treks. Father Fred Alvarez had become my dear friend. He passed away a few years ago, yet I wanted to stop in, pay my respects. But alas, as I hike, and hike, and hike, I’ve gone far past Graymoor. The trail obviously does not pass there anymore–a real disappointment.
Nothing, really, to redeem this day. Just more of the usual, rocks and boulders, up side of the mountain, down side of the mountain. Forecast was for rain early afternoon, thunderstorms later. The rain comes, but lasts no more than three or four minutes. Barry had come to check on me at the time, and I just sat it out in the van. Lucked out–hard, steady rain didn’t arrive until after the day’s hike was completed.
Another restful evening back at Bear Mountain Bridge Motel…
…a ministry of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement,
dedicated to the reconciliation, or at-one-ment,
of people with themselves, each other, and God.
