Trail Day–164
Trail Mile–-00.0/1,871.1
Location–Shaw’s Hiker Hostel, Monson, Maine, Jarrod Poet & Kimberly Hippie Chick Hester, Proprietors

It rained all night and forecast is for it to continue throughout the day today. So, we decided to stick tight here at Shaw’s. Right decision as the rain comes steady throughout the morning and into the afternoon.

A hungry hiker breakfast prepared by Poet–bacon and eggs (3), country fries, blueberry pancakes, and plenty of orange juice &  coffee. Late morning, during a break in the rain, we head for the corner General Store for lunch.

As I’m settling up, I ask the lady at checkout about Reverend Witmer, if he was still here. Looking out the window toward the church, she replied, “He sure is, and that’s his vehicle parked there by the church, so looks like he’s there.” Thanking her I head right over.  Sure enough, Reverend Witmer is in and he welcomes me. He doesn’t remember me, but I wouldn’t expect him to, as I’m sure he’s greeted and welcomed hundreds of guests into his sanctuary over the past 21 years. But I remember him and it’s a joy to find he’s still here and ministering to the spiritual needs in his community.

Evening, Kimm prepares a delicious supper. We then enjoy time with Poet & Hippie Chick and other hikers here at Shaw’s.

The best thing one can do when it’s raining
is to let it rain.
