Trail Day–206
Trail Mile–-8.1/2167.3
Remaining Miles–450.1
Location–Imp Shelter

A fine night’s rest at Top Notch Inn in Gorham. We’re up and out early. First stop, McDonald’s for breakfast. Then Copperhead drives us back to parking at Rattle River. Cat Tracks is hiking with us today (Speedy, Copperhead & me).

The climb begins immediately, a hard, steady 3,200-foot ascent past Middle Moriah Mountain, then up and over Mount Moriah. It’s a glorious day to wander the mountains (say climb) and take in the wonder of it, as the views across the Presidentials, the Carters, and the Wild River Wilderness are utterly spellbinding.

Our hike is slowed considerably, mainly by the clutter of rocks and boulders. It’s evening before we reach Imp Shelter. I go for water before settling in. Speedy warms water for my evening meal, instant mashed potatoes and chicken bits.

A windy, chilly evening. I retreat to the farthest upper shelter platform corner.

Not all those who wander are lost.
